I’m blessed to have Midge, my best friend and the love of my life, as my wife. Together we have two supremely talented and beautiful daughters, Liv and Em. We also have two female dogs, Saz and Tula (named after two of my favorite whiskeys).
What are your hobbies? What’s your passion?
In my spare (hahahahahah… sigh… ahem) time, I love to Drink and Draw. My buddy Jesse introduced me to this fabulous idea several years ago. It’s great fun. I also collect blues music, enjoy building Star Wars Legos with my girls, and cooking (anything Cajun) for my friends. Oh, and I’m a lifelong Saints fan. Don’t get me started about this past year.
How did you hear about Mad Genius?
Long story. Here’s the short version: I had just wrapped up a client’s conference in Homestead, Va. It was late in the evening. I was dressed in a tuxedo sipping an Old Fashioned, standing in a courtyard to get some fresh air and marvel at the new snowfall. Out of the blue, Rick called to ask if I’d be interested in helping him start an agency. The next thing I knew I was moving to Mississippi. Rick’s a good salesman.
Tell us about your first day at Mad Genius.
I moved to Mississippi on a Sunday. I planned to stay in a B&B while I looked for a new home for my family. Midge and the girls were planning to join me later. I was almost to Madison when Rick called and said he wanted me to come by as soon as I hit town. He was hosting the entire crew from Primos Hunting at his house to unveil a brand new campaign that he’d recently created. I was dressed in flops, shorts and a t-shirt (driving for six hours) when I walked through the door. I grabbed a beer and started talking with a quiet guy in the back of the room about the local real estate market, relocating my family to MS and hoping to find the perfect house to start new memories. Before I knew it, we skipped out on Rick’s party and were driving all over town looking at houses for sale. Later, I found out the guy was Will Primos.
What’s your greatest accomplishment at Mad Genius?
After over seven years of working in the labs, the fact that I haven’t accidentally blown myself up yet is a major accomplishment. Seriously though, the thing I love most about Mad Genius is the sense of family that we share and the culture that we’ve created. I love that we can laugh and cry, pull outlandish practical jokes, toast our victories and drown our sorrows together. It’s a special place.
What Genius memories stand out?
In no particular order: our first year Open House party; the Buffett concert in Chicago with Chip and Rick; surviving a tornado on the Rez during our Spring Retreat; interviewing Frank over pints of Guinness; the millions of road trips with Sarver behind the wheel and a Dairy Queen on the horizon; and making Irish Car Bombs with our team after we won our first major account.
What’s your most NON-Genius moment at Mad Genius?
You’ll have to ask Ryan. I think he charts a Google spreadsheet of all our screw-ups in client meetings.
What is the one thing no one really knows about you?
I love old school country music (Haggard, Hank, Cash, Waylon and Willie). I can’t tell the difference between good wine and cheap wine. And I loathe spiders.
